Will Verizon 4g be worth the cost over Sprint?

I am looking into getting a new smartphone that I will be using quite a bit for calls, internet, emails for work and texting. I've heard that Verizon's new 4g is supposed to be really good, but currently Sprint offered me a 25% discount, so it would be quite a bit cheaper than Verizon. What's the deal with Verizon's upcoming 4g service and is it really going to be that great that I should pay quite a bit more? Thanks for any and all feedback.

I think Verizon is going to exceed Sprints coverage in the near future if they have not already but it's also too early to tell who the clear winner is. The main advantage for Verizon is their lower frequency, however they also have a huge downfall with their limited amount of spectrum. I also think in large cities Sprint has a huge advantage because they can install many more towers without causing interference due to the larger amount of spectrum and the higher frequency. This will enable them to meet future demand. This also might be one reason why Verizon doesn't offer an unlimited plan for 4g. In short I would say it's still a matter of personal choice on who provides the best coverage and the best phone for you're situation. Who knows this could change overnight because there are so may variable about what the future of 4g holds and if carriers are going to hold true to their promises.

There is no universal subsidy unlock code as each phone has it's own unique code based on the IMEI of the device. Best bet would to be an online search for subsidy unlock codes which can be obtained for a fee. Not likely anyone here can provide it for you.

Zire 31, MP3 player and SD card question

Didn't know whether to post this on this forum or the handhelds . . .

Bought an SD card (1GB) for downloading music to. My dtr's pda (Zire 31) supports the SD card and has a built-in MP3 player.

Can't figure out how to download music from media player (have both Windows media player and RealPlayer) to the SD card.

I have dragged the song to Palm Quick Install and it shows up in the window that says "expansion card" and a note that it will be downloaded with the next hot sync.

When hot sync'd, looked at expansion card (which was inserted in the pda during the hot sync) from the pda and didn't see the song.

However, when I go back to Palm Quick Install, it shows that the song download has been "subtracted" from the expansion card memory.

Have read and reread the info in the Zire31 User Manual to figure it out, but the window that it says should come up when dragging the song to the Quick Install icon on the desktop never comes up.

Also can't figure out how to read the SD card in the pda MP3 player.

Gosh, I'm banging my head against the wall here. Any suggestions? Thanks.

when using my sd card for storage I insert the SD card into my pc moveing Mp3/Movies/pictures in folder i have created in the sd card.then I put the Sd card in my pda.when I open my media player the folders are there for the picking.

Although I appreciate both responses, I am totally and completely lost!

First, there is no "media" listed on my palm desktop. Shoulder there be? Or did you mean the word "media" generically, and if so, what did you mean specifically? LOL

Second, I got the part about putting the sd card into my pc. But, I know nothing about an sd card, so I haven't a clue how to create a folder on the sd card. Or, how to move things to a created folder.

Oh, my, my head hurts!

Between home and office we don't have the Zire 31. We have a collection of all serail port equipped PalmOne PDAs of PalmOS 3.5 and higher which includes the Palm Vx, IIIc, m100, E, E2, T2, T3, T5, Zire 71, LifeDrive, T|X and the Treo 650. Since we want to sync to so many we used the CD that came with the LifeDrive at the office and I used the T|X CD at the home office.

I don't see the MEDIA MANAGER at palmone.com but look there and try Qosmio's folder idea.

when insert the sd card in pc you have a window pop giveing you choices.click on (open folder view files)then click ok.you will have a window come up that says removable Disk -that windows your sd card.put pointer in that window and right click.you will scroll down to (new) then you will see (folder)left click.you will see a folder you created on you sd card.you can name that folder lets say mp3dec05.leave the window open
on your pc go to (start) then to (my music).drag and drop music from you pc to you sd card folder-mp3dec05.
you can put as many folders on you sd card thats needed to store diffrent music as well as pics.

Great idea. But, nothing pops up when I insert the SD card into my pc. Does that mean the SD card is bad?

There is only one slot in the front of my pc for this card.

on you pc.click start then click on (my computer)in your choices you will see something like....(secure digital storage device)or a SD card icon.double click on it and window pops up.that your card were you install folders

Hi katiebug - It's been 6 years, so you probably don't even use the Zire 31 anymore, but I just got one and had the exact same problem.

If you have your Zire 31 and your PC connected properly (ie; they see each other) then you can do the following:

If you go to http://en.softonic.com/s/palmone-zire-31:palm and download the RealPlayer for Palm, that works. Make sure you have Palm Desktop installed, install the RP you download at the above link and run it. It will install the player on your Zire with the next HotSync, then run it on the Zire to auto-detect any MP3s on your storage card. Remember, the Zire can't recognize cards larger than 1GB.

droid x quits checking my corporate sync email

...about every two weeks.

i can still check the corporate sync email account manually but it won't check it on the 15 minute fetch schedule.

it will work flawlessly for about two weeks and then for reasons unknown, it decides to quit fetching the mail. like i said, i can still check manually, but it won't auto fetch. and when it quits fetching the mail, it flat refuses to update my calandar AT ALL. the only thing i can do is delete the account and re-set it up. REALLY REALLY annoying.

any solutions? and, the only reason i have this blasted phone is for work and the ability to access corporate email while on the road without having to fire up the full laptop... so it not fetching corporate email is unacceptable. the fact that it still fetches my personal web email is totally irrelavant.

Just setup my mobile skype and it appears to not do video chatting like i can on my PC. Did a little google search and the app fring pops up but not much discussion about it. Anybody successfully doing video chatting on their HTC incredible? I know it doesn't have a front facing camera but i'll flip it around our use it in a mirror. Thanks, Mike

Android Phone Q: When An Attachement Goes To "Phone Storage"

...I'm hoping one of you can help here. When I get an email with certain attachments, after I download them (the thing with the clock icon with the second hand that goes around and around) I then click the paperclip icon which I believe means the attachment is now downloaded and ready to be opened. Sometimes I get "Open" and all is well and I can now see the attachment. Other times I get a choice of "save to phone stnorage" or "save to SD card." In either of these cases when I click them nothing happens and I have no idea where to go in the phone to access "phone storage" or the "SD card."

If it matters I'm using the HTC Incredible.

Can any of you tell me how to access "phone storage" or the "SD card" on my phone? And can anyone explain why some attachments can be opened directly after downloading while others are only saved to "phone storage" or the "SD card?"

Where is the Blackberry 9800??????

Anybody out there know when the new Blackberry 9800 slider is REALLY coming out, and to which carrier? All info on the net says June and to at&t. Problem is i have gone to 4 at&t retailers, none of which had a clue about the phone. Even had to go to youtube to show them the phone. Maybe they are "acting" ignorant to the existance of the phone due to confidentiality or whatever. Problem is I WANT this phone, and actually need a new device. My Sprint HTC Touch Pro 2 is crap, and I am willing to break contract to go to the carrier that has this phone. So somebody, anybody... let me know the REAL deal on this phone. I figured if it were being released this month, one of the CNET staff would have copped it by now for a review, but nothing notta. Beginning to believe this phone is like that elusive beautiful women, a dream.

Buying Advice

I need to buy a new smartphone, and I need advice. I have a BB (Tour 9630), but it just can't do what I need it to do....I need to be able to manage two business FB and Twitter accounts; I also oversee a LinkedIn group. I need the phone to be really good at e-mail. And, I don't think I want an iPhone because I don't want to be without flash (or do you not miss that?) Signal problem! I just bought Straight Talk... Help!

Hi I hope I didn't shoot my self in the foot going cheap, but I just bought Straight Talk from Walmart and all it will show is I'm on Roam. So I'm out of service at home. I got to get back to my old Boost plan if this don't work.

I guess the question I want to know. Who provides the service in my area? I know Sprint only gets 1 or no bars around my home "I had one and my friends has the same issues here", and my friend that has Verizon gets about 2 and sometimes 3 bars? I'm seeing 4 full bars on my Samsung R451C. Anyone know who's signal I'm seeing on Roam? To my knowledge we only have Verizon and Sprint as the CDMA carriers in my area for sale.

To buy or not To buy..

okay, so here's is my dilemma of sorts.

i have a 3rd gen. ipod touch (no camera)
i'd like to get a 4th gen. (w/ a camera)

but i also need a phone.

in the end, I'd like something that replaces my touch; that being said, i'd like it to: take decent quality video/pictures, games, surfing the net, phone use.)

I live in Canada atm, and I will be moving down to texas for a while..

so my thinking is this:
should i be looking to pick up an unlocked phone while i'm down there? (where it is most likely cheaper)


an iphone4 would be sweet, it has a decent processor, i'd be able to use the facechat feature, and most importantly i can buy one unlocked off their website.

but i'm no lemming, just because its an apple product doesn't mean its the be all end all;

what android phones should i be looking into?

I have Windows Media Player 10 and I want to know how you rip/burn music from a CD and turn it into a MP3 file. All I can figure out is how to burn/rip the music and it is saved as a wma file.

Creating MP3 file from AVI

I recently created an MP3 file from an AVI video file using a simple program called AoA audio extractor. I now have an MP3 file that is about 2 hours long and I intend to transfer to my IPOD.

Here is my problem. I would like to create speratre tracks in this MP3 file. For your refernece, it was a live concert video that I am working with.

Any ideas to simply breakdown this single MP3 file into tracks?

Weird Tungsten E2 problem - won't turn off.

I've had my Tungsten E2 about a year. It hotsyncs fine, accepts data and displays data fine. I didn't add any software recently (there is 3rd party software but it's over 6 months old). I didn't even drop it. But, starting 2 days ago it won't stay powered off. After I switch it off, after 10 seconds it's back on again! It does this with or without the power cable. Without the power cable plugged in it powers down in a day. And it won't do a hard reset. I ran antivirus software on my PC but it says it's clean. The Palm website doesn't say anything about power staying ON. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Conceding I've lost to WinZip 15 Pro.

I had downloaded the "Website Music Player" quite a while ago but since my recent purchase of WinZip 15, it is being held hostage and will not let it go. WinZip is a very robust program and I have spent hours reading the numerous pages of instructions but I give up. I just don't know what it wants me to do. I'm ready to launch my first website but in the meantime I'm learning of all the different internet media players. O.K., I get "scrobbling" but how can I play music on my site without copyright infringement? There's so many players and music downloads now. What is legally acceptable?
